Fran Scott, Associate Director, MIHE and Program Director, MPH, attended the World Congress on Public Health in April 2017 in Melbourne Australia. This conference is held every 2-4 years and is sponsored by the World Federation of Public Health Associations who celebrated their 50th anniversary at the conference. The conference included over 2700 attendees with over 100 posters and oral presentations from 80 countries representing over 120 public health associations. Fran presented about portfolio learning on behalf of the MPH research team. The conference themes were Voices, Vision and Action with a major focus on the Sustainable Development Goals. The conference culminated with a Demand for Action. Highlights included a strong indigenous presence, acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land and the elders past and present. A number of McMaster faculty and students also attended including Manasi Parikh (BHSc 2018) and Tishya Parikh (BArtsSci 2017), co-presidents of the new undergraduate public health association: the topic of their poster and young professionals’ workshop.
